Spring Motivation

We all get tired of the feeling of winter darkness and heaviness. And every year, we look forward to Spring; transformation and change, from dark to light, cold to warm and grey to color.  New beginnings! But where to begin? Whatever you do, don’t let yourself get overwhelmed in the process. You can start by making small changes to help lighten and freshen up your space.

Look around your home … what makes you feel heavy?  Dark pillows and blankets on your chair or sofa? Winter placemats, dark kitchen towels and decor? Change it up! Start by editing first. Get rid of worn, stained or dingy dish towels and linens. Store remaining winter décor and items in labeled clear bins so that they are easy to find at the end of next fall. Replace items with lighter and fresher colors for spring and summer.  See?  Your home already feels lighter.

Next, grab a dust rag and vacuum cleaner and give your space a good dusting and vacuum.  Make sure you get under furniture and beds too as dust and allergens build up over the winter months.

Ok, you’re on a roll. What else reminds you of winter? What about the dirty window you see every time you come through the door? What about the coat closet that has so many coats in it you can’t find what your looking for? Look in your pantry. Do you still have a holiday fruitcake sitting there? Toss it.

As Professional Organizer’s, the one point we stress to our clients is to start with something simple. Once you’ve tackled it, you’ll have the visual fix to keep you motivated and revitalized to move onto more de-cluttering projects. Now, go out and buy yourself some fresh flowers!
